Domain Tool – nltest

This command line provides diagnostic features to troubleshoot domain system configurations.

This command can be used to:

  • Get a list of domain controllers
  • Force a remote shutdown
  • Query the status of a trust
  • Test trust relationships and the state of domain controller replication

Usage 1

To get domain information use the following command:

nltest command line

nltest /dsgetdc:<enter domain here>

Output 1

The command will output the following information:

Example: The domain is imawsome.com

nltest /dsgetdc:imawesome.com

DC: \<dc name>.imawesome.com

Address: \<ip address of domain controller>

Dom Guid: <xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx>(Domain Guid String)

Dom Name: imawesome.com

Forest Name: imawesome.com

DC Site Name: <Site that the server is located in>

Our Site Name: (Only renders if )

Flags (possible results): PDC GC DS LDAP KDC TIMESERV GTIMESERV WRITABLE DNS_DC DNS_DOMAIN DNS_FOREST CLOSE_SITE FULL SECRET WS DS_8 DS_9

The command completed successfully (if the command processes)
